Meet our Team Monday: Nick Bishop

Today, we'd like you to meet one of our board members, Nick Bishop, Vice President for Economic and Community Development at Vol State.

Nick Bishop is a native East Tennessean. Nick is from Sunbright, TN located in Morgan County, a small rural community nestled upon the Cumberland Plateau. Nick is a graduate of Sunbright High School and received his bachelors degree from the University of Tennessee- Knoxville. Nick also holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law. Nick is also a graduate of LEAD Tennessee.

Nick's professional career started in the energy sector where he worked with multiple fortune 500 companies developing opportunities for natural gas exploration and market transportation across the Appalachian Basin. Nick left the energy sector and has served in multiple public sector roles over the past 10 years. Nick spent 10 years with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development where he worked with and led numerous workforce and community development initiatives across Tennessee, including implementation of policies associated with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. Nick also served a term on the Morgan County Commission.

In September of 2018, Nick joined Volunteer State Community College as the Vice President for Economic and Community Development. Nick serves in the President's cabinet at Vol State and oversees initiatives and activities associated with workforce and economic development, continuing education, and governmental affairs. Nick also serves on the Sumner Joint Economic and Community Development board, and as a Tennessee Achieves Mentor to High School students transitioning to college.

Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife Mika, traveling, making bogeys in Golf, and enjoying the great outdoors.
