Meet our Members: Michael Bates, Gallatin Housing Authority
This week’s business spotlight is Michael Bates with the The Gallatin Housing Authority! The Gallatin Housing Authority serves as a property management agency for the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Housing Authority provides subsidy affordable housing for extremely low-income, very low-income and low-income families or individuals. Michael has been with the Gallatin Housing Authority since 2013 and since then has been working diligently to make sure the homes he helps manage in Gallatin are something for its occupants to be proud of. They are continuing to update the interior and exterior of their existing affordable housing portfolio to attract higher-income residents. They also strive to be progressively innovative by building affordable housing with the amenities found in the private market, which in turn, will make them attractive to a new population of residents. They are currently upgrading the main office IT equipment to meet the needs of the 21st Century. His staff consists of 15 employees. It has grown by 15% over the last year. This is due partly because the Agency experienced the retirement of a longtime employee and the increased demand for timely service for their customers required additional help. GHA has built 100 new apartments within a new development called Sumner Gardens Apartments. It’s comprised of 42 two bedrooms and 58 three-bedroom apartments. It was built with 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits in 2017. While Gallatin’s population continues to grow, GHA will provide subsidized housing for those who have lived here, along with those who are moving here who can’t afford the new market-rate apartments. Thank you to Michael and the rest of the staff at the Gallatin Housing Authority for the services you provide the residents of Gallatin!
